Dental Care and Radiography

Capital Heights Veterinary Clinic provides dental care services including cleaning, polishing, and overall assessment as well as extractions and recommendations for at-home dental care. Additionally, we have a digital dental radiography unit that enables us to conduct an in-depth examination of the mouth and sinuses.

Believe it or not, pets need to have their teeth checked and cleaned regularly just like people do. They also will develop tartar and plaque deposits on their teeth if they do not receive routine care from a qualified professional. Most pet owners are not aware that with regular cleaning, polishing, and check-ups, as well as following good oral hygiene habits at home, you can typically extend the life of your pet by several years.

With the added advantage of regular screenings using dental radiology, our veterinarian can locate potential problem areas. Dental x-rays enable us to identify tooth root changes (like abscesses) and alveolar bone loss, and it gives us the opportunity to discover teeth that are painful or require extraction. If found early enough, the tooth may be saved with advanced techniques.

If you notice your pet exhibiting any of the following conditions, don’t hesitate to give us a call and schedule a dental care appointment:

  • • Abnormal chewing, drooling, or dropping food from the mouth
  • • Bad breath
  • • Bleeding from the mouth
  • • Broken or loose teeth
  • • Gum recession and/or gum swelling
  • • Pain in or around the mouth
  • • Pawing at the face or mouth
  • • Reduced appetite or refusal to eat
  • • Swelling of the face
  • • Teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar
  • • Weight loss
